Staunton, also known as the Queen City, is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Known for its mountain views & culture, Staunton has something to offer everyone. Named for Lady Rebecca Staunton, wife to Royal Lieutenant-Governor Sir William Good, Staunton is located at the nexus of Route 250 and Route 11 as well as Interstate 64 and Interstate 81, making it a central hub for travelers and commerce. Historically, Staunton was a bustling commercial city and trading post for what was then known as the Northwest Territory and the western part of Virginia as a whole.
The Queen City is also home to art galleries and schools, the Staunton Music Festival held in early- August, the Frontier Culture Museum and Blackfriar’s Playhouse, where you may catch a live performance by the American Shakespeare Center. Several films have also been filmed in Staunton,
including Gods and Generals (2003), Evan Almighty (2007) and Hearts in Atlantis (2001) to name a few.
